What is Scrap Gold?

Gold jewellery is so easy to see and spot. However, it is not only jewellery that are made of gold. There are even dental gold fillings and gold teeth. There are also some electronic parts that have gold in them. However, these electronic parts contain only a small amount of gold. You can group these together and sell scrap gold.

You may sell your broken gold earrings, unwanted gold bracelet, and old gold wedding bands together with your scrap gold. Just remember to segregate them first. You must find out the carat of each piece or the purity of your gold jewellery. If your gold bracelet has 18 carats, then it means that it has 18 parts gold and 6 parts alloy. So if your gold wedding band has 14 carats, it means that it contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts alloy.

How to Know The Purity of Your Jewellery

The hard way to learn about the purity of your jewellery pieces is by subjecting them to the acid test. There are kits that can be purchased from jewellery suppliers. These kits can be for 10K, 14K, and 18K jewellery items. If you want a kit for higher purity, just ask the store. The kit comes with a stone and an acid bottle.

  • Rub the jewellery item on the stone.
  • Place a drop of acid from the bottle with the highest acidity. If the streak on the sample turns brown, the purity of the jewellery is of the lower number.

For example, if you place an 14K acid on the sample and it has no effect, try the 18K acid. If it turns brown, then the jewellery item is 14K.

The easiest and fastest way s at Gold Buyers Melbourne. We use the lates X-ray Flourescence (XRF) analysis technology to help you determine the purity of your gold. This allow us to give you the highest cash for your scrap gold as scrap gold price is still high.
